Pub And Brewery News - March 2018
The following pub and brewery news was reported at the branch meeting held on Wednesday 7th March 2018.
Pub News
The Bluebird, Higher Compton, no longer serves real ale; Rising Sun Inn, also Higher Compton, now serves only Sharp’s Atlantic and Doom Bar during the week, with the third pump a changing guest beer at weekends (until it runs out); Cherry Tree, Ham Drive, no longer serves real ale; Two Trees, Union Street, is reportedly closed (Post Meeting Note: sadly, it has been confirmed as closed); Hunting Lodge, Cadleigh Park, Ivybridge, now serves Dartmoor Jail Ale, Sharp’s Atlantic and Doom Bar, and St Austell Tribute; Unicorn, Plympton, now serves one real ale, Doom Bar, and have slightly amended their opening hours (opens at 0900, not 0800); Post Office Inn, also Plympton, is reportedly now closed; Walrus, Athenaeum Street, is also reportedly closed; Jolly Miller, Estover, does not serve real ale (not even bottles ?); scaffolding has been erected outside of Caffeine Club, North Hill, Roundabout, Drake Circus and Union Rooms, Union Street, while they remain open; a planning application has been submitted on behalf of JDW for 59, Broadway, Plymstock, PL9 7AF (the old Co-Op) for conversion of existing unit into several retail units, including new pub; there are 31 branch pubs serving real ale without photos on What Pub; there have been no Cask Marque additions/deletions during February 2018.

Fri 25 – Mon 28 May Mary Tavy Inn Beer, Sausage and Mash fest over late May BH weekend, during usual pub hours

Brewery News
Stannary Brewery, Tavistock, have completed their move into the unit next door; Summerskills November Porter is now available all year, and is renamed Plymouth Porter, with an reduced ABV of 5.1%; Roam Brewing Co will be launching a Special IPA to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Drake Foundation; Wizard Brewery , Ilfracombe, have been sold and re-launched, brewing one beer initially, with a second due out now; Yelland Manor, Barnstaple, are due to launch a new beer, Tarka Special 4.1%, to celebrate the new Sunday train service; Big Rabbit, formally of Cullompton, have relocated to Glasgow, trading as Merchant City Brewing; Otter are concentrating on their kegged lager at the moment; & the Topsham Brewery plant has been sold to a restauranteur on the banks of Loch Ness.
