The following pub and brewery news was reported at the branch committee meeting on Monday 1st April 2019.
Pub News
Venue, Tavistock, is undergoing a refurbishment and is now known as the Drakes Wine Bar & Cafe, opening times unknown at present. Trout 'N' Tipple, also in Tavistock, is back under the stewardship of Abigail – we wish her well. Famous Firkin and Firkin Dog House, both in Stonehouse, no longer serve real ale. Walrus, City Centre, serves St. Austell Tribute. Desire, Barbican, is closed for refurbishment. It may re-open as an eatery/restaurant. Black Jack’s, Barbican, is now called Rust & Royal, but does not serve any real ale. The Plymstock Club, Plymstock, opens at 1030 Monday – Saturday, and at 1200 on Sundays. The regular real ale in the Plymouth Hoe Club is Hunter’s Devon Dreamer.
Beer festivals are due to take place at the Dolphin Hotel Easter Beer Festival 2019, Barbican; Minerva Inn Easter Beer Festival 2019, Barbican and Walkhampton Inn Easter Beer Festival 2019, Walkhampton, over the Easter Weekend. The Boringdon Arms Beer Festival returns at the end of April, on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th. The STERTS Theatre Taming The Brew Beer Festival, Upton Cross, takes place on Saturday 4th May, from 1400.

Summerskills Brewery have brewed a commemorative ale for the Maltings Beer Festival, First In, Last Out, which was brewed with the last malt made at Tucker’s Maltings before its’ closure last Autumn. The SIBA Tucker's Maltings Beer Festival 2019 takes place on the green in marquees in front of the old Tucker's Maltings building in Newton Abbot on Thursday 11th to Saturday 13th April. Roam have once again won an award for Tavy Porter. This time it is a Silver medal in the CAMRA SW CBOB Competition - well done Jon, as he received his award from South West Regional Director, Gareth MacDonald. We are happy to point out that Glastonbury Ales have not changed their name.
