The following pub and brewery news was reported at the Branch Social Meeting on Wednesday 5th July 2017.
Pub News
The Boringdon Arms , and Clovelly Bay Inn, both Turnchapel are holding festivals over w/e 28/29 July (beer, and cider/sausage). Open Fri 1600/1800 – 2300, and 1200 – 2300 Saturday, which coincides with Turnchapel Community Day; Gipsy Moth, The Hoe, joined Discount Scheme – 10%/pint, and gained Cask Marque accreditation wef 8/6/17; Butcher’s Arms, Stonehouse, has been converted to the Hutong Cafe, nothing remaining of pub; Firkin Dog House, Union St, have had two reports in 3 months of no real ale; Forest Inn, Hexworthy, now open 7 days a week; Dartmoor Inn, Merrivale, has been advertised for sale; Plymstock Inn is reportedly closed; River Cottage Canteen & Deli, Royal William Yard, closed unexpectedly recently; Noahs Ark, City Centre, is closed for refurbishment and will re-open on Friday 14th July.
Brewery News
Albion BC, Bath – new brewery, RAIBs only; Art Brew, N Devon – new beer range, suitable for vegetarians and vegans; Barnaby’s Brewhouse, Staverton – new brewery, “craft lagers”, no real ale; Camel, Camelford – renamed Dowr Kammel; Chippenham – will be relocating soon; Combined Brewers, Glos – have ceased trading; Cottage have suspended all trading; EMAL, Exeter – are retail only, beers are brewed by Powderkeg; Fat Belly, N Devon – new brew pub at Cottage Inn, Lynbridge; Forge relocated 7 miles from N Devon to Cornwall; Freeminer, Somerset have closed; Moorstone Brewery's Theo’s Brew will be available throughout July; Ordnance City, Somerset, have also closed; Penpont, Altarnun, are now T/A Altarnun – new company; RCH has ceased and closed; Pitchfork Ales are a new brewery (taken on some RCH beers); Ralf’s Ruin – new brew pub (Royal Oak, Bath); Red Kite – new brewery in Clevedon, nr Bristol (3 ales); Salcombe have relocated 1 mile to new brewery premises; Two Beech, S Devon, may be relocating soon; Two Tone Beer, Shebear, N Devon – new brewery, no details available; Wooden Hand – have a completely new beer range.
Post Meeting Note: Edgcumbe Arms, Milton Abbot, have new licensees, as does the Market Inn, Tavistock. The White Thorn Inn, Shaugh Prior, may reopen later in the year.
