The following pub and brewery news was reported at the January Branch Meeting on Wednesday 8th January 2020.
Pub News
A new brewery tap is undergoing refurbishment on Mutley Plain, in the former cat’s charity shop, called Bulletproof Brewing Taphaus after the name of the new brewery. It is expected to open “soon”, whenever that is. There have been about 15 WP updates submitted, mostly for updating telephone/contacts details. Pub Of The Voting has taken place. Final judging will begin very soon. Mildmay Colours, Holbeton, re-opened in late November under new licensees, Nicky and Rik Cole. The kitchen is now closed for refurbishment after the Christmas period. Leaping Salmon Inn, Horrabridge, is closed until 22nd January for holidays, as is the Dartmoor Inn, Lydford, until the 25th. The Forest Inn, Hexworthy, is closed until 1st February, also for holidays. The Boringdon Arms, Turnchapel, are holding their Winter Beer Festival from 1600 on Friday 7th February until closing time on Saturday 8th February, during their usual opening hours.
Beer scores for the calendar year 2019 reached nearly 3 000 – thank you very much!
Cask Marque Accreditation was neither lost nor gained since November by any branch pubs.
Brewery News
There is a new brewery in Cornwall, named Krow, who are believed to be operating in Redruth. CAMRA’s official position for liaising with breweries is the Brewery Liaison Officer (BLO) position. We have vacancies for the following branch-located breweries:-
Anchor House, who are termed a “Cuckoo Brewery”, as they use spare capacity at an existing other brewery. Their office address is listed in Plympton, at 3, Osmand Gardens PL7 1AA. They are listed as being in FULL PRODUCTION, as their beers are in the trade, and they talk to us. Billy Ruffian’s, based at PCFE, King’s Road, Devonport, PL1 5QG. No contact has been possible so far, despite numerous requests. They are listed as being in TEST PRODUCTION, until contact with us is made. Bulletproof, with a brewery tap (to open soon on Mutley Plain) and a brewery being fitted out on-site, 91 Mutley Plain. PL4 6JJ. They are listed as being in at PLANNED PRODUCTION. Ivybridge Brewing Company, a community brewery based in Ivybridge, at 41, Rue St. Pierre, Ivybridge, PL21 0HS. They are listed as being in FULL PRODUCTION. Steel Brew Co, with an office in Sherford, near Plymstock, and the brewery address will be Melville Building, Royal William Yard, Stonehouse, PL1 3RP. They are listed as being at PLANNED PRODUCTION.
