The following pub and brewery news was reported at the Branch Committee meeting on Monday 5th February 2018.
Pub News
The Royal, Stonehouse, has been taken over by Steve Bishop, of Fler, Barbican, and intends to run both pubs, reverting to the name Brewery Tap; Half Moon Café, Devonport, is now open as a licensed café, with several dart boards, and called Dinky Diner Dartsworld Cafe; Miller & Carter Steakhouse, Coxside, Jack Rabbit, Derriford and Sir Joshua Reynolds, Plympton, now give a CAMRA discount – thank you very much!
Brewery News
Tavy Ales have re-branded to the Roam Brewing Co; Stannary Brewing Co have moved into the larger next door unit; new breweries: Darkplace, Colyton, near Exeter (RAIBs only at present); Taw Valley, North Tawton, North Devon (one cask ale – Session Ale, 4.0%): Sunset, in Cornwall, a cuckoo brewery, originally the beer was brewed by Wooden Hand, prior to that brewery ceasing production and the plant being transferred to the parent company (Cornish Brewing Co) in Salisbury; Topsham Brewery have ceased production, and sold the plant to a pub near Loch Ness, Inverness-shire; Wizard Ales, Ilfracombe, have been sold to Carly O’Callaghan, the Brewster, concentrating on one beer available all year, Lundy Gold, a 4.1% golden-coloured ale; Druid’s Fluid, will be launched after local CAMRA branch beer tasting on Saturday 10th February. Penpont Brewery have re-branded to Altarnun; their typical British beers will still have Penpont on the pump clip, but their hoppier beers will be branded as Firebrand Brewery products; the Roseland Inn, near Truro, pub and brewery are for sale; Skinner’s Brewery, Truro, plan to introduce a new range of keg beers; St. Austell’s bottled Big Job has been awarded Champion Bottled Beer of Britain; Tintagel Brewery visitor centre is now fully open for business.
