Pub and Brewery News - May 2025
The following extract has been copied and pasted from the Branch Meeting Minutes held on Wednesday 6th May 2015, at 8.00 pm at the Union Inn, Plympton, PL7 1SY.
The Tap and Barrel, Lipson, is to reopen as the Penguin. Royal Navel Arms, Keyham, is having difficulty in attracting a new licensee. The Breton Arms, Bretonside, is reopening in July. The West Hoe, West Hoe, has made an enquiry about offering CAMRA discount. AR to follow up. Kings Head, Bretonside, has been refurbished. The Foxhound, Brixton, and Fisherman's Arms, Barbican, are having beer festivals over the late May Bank Holiday weekend.
Assets of Community Value: A discussion on the sorts of pub we should list raised the following points. (a) The ACV was originally set up to protect the “only pub remaining” in a community. (b) The local community would fill in the paperwork, however CAMRA is now allowed to do this for any pub it identifies as requiring such protection. (c) Do we have any pubs that are listed buildings? (d) Suggestions were made of: Minerva Inn, Barbican; Barbican Arms, Barbican; Kings Head, Bretonside; Providence Inn, Greenbank; Lounge Inn, Devonport; Stoke Inn, Stoke; Union Inn, Plympton; London Inn, Plympton; Royal Albert Bridge Inn and the Ferrey House, both Saltash Passage; Bristol Castel, Devonport; Thistle Park Tavern and the Eagle, both Coxside. (e) Areas where they are most vulnerable to conversion ie. in student areas like North hill. (f) Other areas like in Weston Mill and St Budeaux, where pub numbers are now low. (g) A list for rural areas is needed.
